JAQ was hired to develop the design for an affordable 3- Story Masonry & Terra Cotta Mixed-Use building in Chicago’s 17th Ward. Our solution utilized Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) criteria along with Low Emissions systems; Sustainable products and finishes and Low-Maintenance Landscape to deliver a Housing Renovation that will not feel affordable. The building has 11 Store Fronts and 28 Apartments; Unit Mix Includes:

The scope included roof replacement, window replacement, masonry restoration, new kitchens, new bathrooms, new VRF HVAC systems, new 1200amp Single Phase Electric Service and LED Lighting. During the design, we had the opportunity to assist 548 Capital win a grant from ComEd Slipstream; all of the equipment and lighting are compliant with the new 2018 Energy Code. In addition to insulation and weatherstripping, we designed the Solar Panel System utilizing BIPV Panels on the façade and integrated with new Store Front Sun Shading. Finally, we redesigned the parking lot and added new street trees to update the pedestrian and tenant experience.
