Whitni Mungin

Whitni received her Bachelor of Architecture from Hampton University and brings over 15 years varied cross industry experience and an authentic energy to JAQ Corp. Her immediate goal is to become a licensed Architect. She moved to Chicago in the pursuit of a new rhythm in her career where she could combine Architecture, Retail, and Project Management in an impactful way. She began her career in Charlotte, NC as a Designer and Project Manager responsible for Civic and Retail projects. She transitioned into corporate retail as a Category Manager for Lowe’s Companies creating and deploying business plans for categories with revenue over $200 Million. While there, she expressed her creativity into how products were packaged, marketed and displayed for the customer. Whitni’s diverse experiences have taught her how to focus on the voice of the customer, ask the right questions to understand client requirements and create solutions that maintain momentum in projects to meet schedules, costs and client goals.

Whitni’s passion for communities extends to her volunteer efforts. Since moving to Chicago, she completed a façade design proposal for a restaurant in the Chatham Community with the NOMA – Illinois Chapter. In Charlotte, Whitni served as a member of the Mixed Income Housing Coalition, coordinating education events to advocate for safe affordable housing. She even presented her personal affordable housing story to the Charlotte City Council. Whitni is most proud of her impact on young African American entrepreneurs she mentored through an intensive twelve-week learning program called City Startup Labs.

Whitni’s dream is to develop an equitable and sustainable blueprint for historically marginalized communities.

She has played the violin and piano but feels a kindred connection to the metronome.

Whitni makes time to continuously seek knowledge and study subjects that interest her. A few things she likes (in no particular order) are: The Harlem Renaissance, Cubism, all hip hop (Rapsody is her favorite artist right now), Renzo Piano, spreadsheets, vegetables and spending time with her SCF (Sisters/Cousins/Family/Friends) crew.
