Life House – Washington Park

JAQ was hired to design a Supportive Mother’s home that was formerly a Catholic Convent in Chicago’s 20th Ward. Our solution utilizes Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) criteria along with Low Emissions systems; Sustainable products & finishes and Low-Maintenance Landscape to deliver a Supportive Housing development for an underserved niche population. The building has (16) Apartments; Unit Mix Includes:

(01) House Mother Suite
(05) 2-Mother Units
(10) Family Units

The scope includes, window replacement, masonry restoration, commercial kitchen, new bathrooms, new VRF HVAC systems, new 800amp 3-Phase Electric Service and LED Lighting. This reimagined building design is eligible for a Sustainable ComEd grant from ComEd; all of the equipment and lighting are compliant with the 2025 Decarbonization Initiative. In addition to insulation and weatherstripping we include BIPV Panels on the roof and façade and we have planned for EV-Charging. Finally, we redesigned the parking lot and added new street trees to update the pedestrian and tenant experience.
